I love the door and cabinet hardware available from Rocky Mountain Hardware - it's beautiful, heavy cast bronze and is available in all sorts of styles from vintage to modern. It's a definite favorite among residential architects. Unfortunately because it's a high quality product, it's also expensive. On our architect/professor incomes, sometimes the products I specify for clients are a bit out of our own budget.
When searching for door hardware for my own front door I found a really nice alternative made by Emtek. They have a line of sandcast bronze handlesets that have a vintage, rustic look. Although, they don't have the variety of styles that you can find with Rocky Mountain, they are a quality, heavy cast bronze product. And best of all, where the Rocky Mountain handlesets start at $1,500, the Emtek Remington handleset in silver patina finish (above) costs about $325.
For the interior knob I chose the egg knob shown below (left).
